A collection for everyone

Kunsthalle Karlsruhe Website

The Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe is one of the largest and most historic museums in Germany with an art collection spanning 800 years.

The heart of the Kunsthalle: the collection that has been formed in 250 years and consists over 20,000 artworks.

Tell the stories, backgrounds and contexts of the artworks and make them relevant to everyone – in the here and now.

Scientists only?

The collection consists over 20,000 artworks – however, only 800 artworks are permanently exhibited. In other words, the largest part can only be viewed digitally. Digital collections these days are made by scientists for scientists. The average culture enthusiast is not considered.

How can we design a collection that is relevant to everybody – scientists AND everyone else?
